Knowledge base & documentation platform

Write it once.
Let everyone find it.

TheDocs turns your product knowledge into a branded self-service portal, an internal wiki and an AI answer engine - from one set of articles. Your customers stop waiting on tickets, and your team stops answering the same question twice.

What is TheDocs?

TheDocs is knowledge base software for building product documentation, help centres, standard operating procedures and internal wikis. Teams author articles in a block and Markdown editor, route them through review and approval, then publish to a branded portal on their own domain. An AI search layer answers questions in natural language and cites the article each answer came from.

  • One workspace covers public help centres, partner portals and private internal docs.
  • AI search, an in-editor writing assistant and a grounded chatbot are built in, not add-ons.
  • Review workflows, version history and read acknowledgement support audited environments.
  • Imports from Confluence, Notion, GitBook, Word and PDF; exports to Markdown, HTML and PDF.
  • Unlimited readers on every plan - you pay for authors, not for audience.
  • Hosted in India, the EU or the US, with SSO, granular roles and full audit logs.
The problem

Your answers exist. Nobody can find them.

Most companies do not have a documentation problem. They have a findability problem, a freshness problem, and no way to tell which is costing them more.

Scattered across six tools

The install guide is in Confluence, the refund policy is in a Google Doc, the API notes are in a repo README, and the real answer is in a support agent's saved replies.

Quietly out of date

Nobody owns the page. It was accurate two releases ago. The only signal that it is wrong is a customer complaint, and by then it has cost you a ticket.

Search that returns 40 results

Keyword search finds documents. Customers arrive with a question. The gap between the two is where self-service quietly fails and the ticket gets raised anyway.

How TheDocs works

Author, publish, answer, improve

Four stages, one platform. Each one feeds the next, which is what turns a documentation site into something that gets measurably better every month.

01

Author

Write in a block editor, paste Markdown, or import an existing library. Reusable snippets and variables mean a product rename is one edit, not ninety.

See the editor
02

Publish

Send drafts through review and approval, then publish to a branded portal on your own domain - public, private, or restricted to signed-in partners.

See the portal
03

Answer

AI search reads the question, not the keywords, and returns a direct answer with a link to the source article. The same engine powers your in-app chatbot.

04

Improve

See the searches that returned nothing, the articles people abandon, and the questions the chatbot could not ground. Fix the top ten. Repeat.

AI that stays honest

Answers grounded in your articles, with the source attached

Every AI answer in TheDocs is generated from your published content and shipped with a citation. If the answer is not in your knowledge base, the assistant says so and offers to open a ticket instead of inventing a procedure.

  • AI search Ask a full question. Get a written answer plus the three articles behind it.
  • Writing assistant Draft from an outline, tighten a passage, or translate a whole article without leaving the editor.
  • Grounded chatbot Embed the same engine in your product, your website or your support desk.
  • MCP endpoint Expose your public docs to ChatGPT, Claude and Copilot so assistants answer from your source, not a stale crawl.

Our invoice failed with error PMT-402. What does that mean and what do I do?

PMT-402 means the card issuer declined the charge for insufficient funds. The invoice stays open and TheDocs retries after 24 hours, then after 72 hours. To resolve it now, update the card on Billing → Payment methods and choose Retry payment.

Evaluating alternatives?

Most teams find us halfway through a vendor evaluation

The category leaders are good products. They are also priced for enterprises and they meter the things you cannot control - readers, article counts, AI queries. TheDocs charges for authors and leaves the rest unlimited.

What you are usually metered on TheDocs Typical enterprise plan
Readers of your public docs Unlimited Tiered by page views
Articles per project Unlimited Capped below top tier
AI search queries Fair-use, no per-query fee Metered add-on
Custom domain and SSL Every plan Paid tier
Review workflow Every plan Business tier and up
Data export Markdown, HTML, PDF, API Varies

Comparison reflects publicly listed plans at the time of writing. Vendor pricing changes - check current terms before you decide.

In their words

What changes after the migration

We moved 900 articles off Confluence in a weekend. The part that actually changed our numbers was the search report - it showed us the twelve questions nobody could find an answer to.

PN Priya Nair Head of Support, SaaS platform

Our field engineers open SOPs on a phone in a plant with bad signal. TheDocs is the first tool where that was not painful.

RM Rahul Mehta Operations Lead, manufacturing

Review workflows sound boring until an auditor asks who approved a procedure and when. We answered in about four minutes.

Frequently asked

Questions people ask before they start

TheDocs is used to write, review and publish documentation: public help centres and product documentation, partner-only portals, internal wikis, standard operating procedures, user manuals and API reference. One workspace can host all of them with different audiences and permissions.

A wiki is optimised for internal collaboration; a knowledge base is optimised for publishing and being found. TheDocs adds the things wikis leave out: a branded public portal on your own domain, SEO metadata and structured data on every article, review and approval workflow, per-version translation status, search analytics, and AI answers grounded only in your published content.

No. Every plan includes unlimited readers on your public portal. You pay per author - the people who write, review or approve content. Internal knowledge bases that require sign-in are priced by reader seat, and that is stated on the pricing page.

Yes. TheDocs imports from Confluence, Notion, GitBook, Zendesk Guide, Markdown repositories, Word and PDF. Structure, images and internal links are preserved, and the migration team will run the first import with you on any annual plan.

The AI answers only from your published articles and returns a citation with every answer. When your content does not cover the question, it says so and offers to hand off to a support form or chat instead of guessing. Search queries that could not be grounded appear in your analytics as content gaps.

Yes - 14 days, no credit card. The trial includes AI search, review workflows and a custom domain so you can evaluate the product you would actually buy.

You choose India, the European Union or the United States at the time your workspace is created. Content is encrypted at rest and in transit, and every workspace is logically isolated.
